In 1866, Charles A. Peverelly wrote, "The game of baseball has now become beyond question the leading feature of the outdoor sports of the United States ... It is a game which is peculiarly suited to the American temperament and disposition; ... in short, the pastime suits the people, and the people suit the pastime."
And this is exactly what I felt when I {at last} made it to my first baseball game in the US (where else could I have witnessed a BB game anyways….considering the fact that my chances of watching a BB game in Japan are quite remote). The ballpark was bustling with activity. It was terrific!! It was electric!!

The Arlington Ballpark

One thing that really catches your eye as soon as you enter the stadium is the COLORS. Lotsa reds/blues/greens all over the stadium. And being the Desis that we (myself and the bunch that was with me) are, we could NOT resist but compare the view there to a fully packed cricket stadium back home. We were unanimous in our observation that the stands here were MUCH more colorful than they are in a cricket stadium (in terms of the clothes ppl wear..its a different thing that the cricket stands in South Africa are as colorful, for the lack of the same ;-)
We had a small discussion about this as we were still standing in one of the "expensive ticket" areas and watching the game without much of a problem to ourselves, and surprisingly... to others too. Not a single soul in the 30,000 capacity almost-packed stadium had any problem with us standing where we were (with an occasional glance from a part-time "policing "guy who was trying to keep pace between watching the crowds and the game)
Anyways we concluded that the lack of "colourful" colors back home can be attributed to low quality of the fabric that does NOT retain the color over time. Well....ya..we could NOT come up with a better one. And then came the moment I was waiting for.....HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMEEE RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ...........The first home run that we witnessed as the ball sky rocketted into air and landed close to where we were standing..we felt one with the game (LOL....sorry could NOT stop laughing at that line...myself).
The whole stadium went into a frenzy....Noise all around..and the Rangers were leading 4-0.
Eventually, after battling huge queues to get some "american food" {read: hotdogs /fries} we started our ascent towards our Alcohol-free stand. We did manage to reach there before the game was over and to tell u the least the view was awesome !!!! Then there was the Birthday parade..followed by some quizzes..the chicken dance..and NOT to forget the mexican wave. It was one fun day....wonderful experience....wonderful feeling just to see people come out and enjoy...have fun....and just eat and drink on a WEEKDAY...it makes you feel better.....

As for the game itself Rangers beat the Yankess 7-0 :-)
